Sensory Rooms

Sensory Rooms from iHUS graphic

Here at iHus Changing Places, the team are committed to the expert design, manufacture and professional installation of Sensory Rooms, as well as raising awareness through our training program and seminars, dedicated to Access for All, including those with the most profound disabilities.

According to a new report, the ‘Global Sensory Rooms’ market is set to increase dramatically over the next four years.

This is largely down to improved technological advances in the design and manufacture of Sensory Rooms, improved knowledge around the benefits of these rooms in a wider variety of settings, (in other words, not necessarily always a hospital environment), and the increasing view that the installation of a Sensory Room provides a market opportunity to businesses who wish to provide Access for All.

And as the campaigns gather momentum, and more businesses aim to become accessible for all, one of the biggest industry sectors set to benefit is the leisure industry. Places such as theme parks, retail parks, theatres, restaurants and leading tourist attractions are all set to benefit from the growth of the ‘purple pound’.

So, what do we know about Sensory Rooms? Where can we find them, and who benefits from them being installed?

Want to find out more about Sensory Rooms and why installing one could not only benefit the whole of society but also your business?

Who Can Use the iHus Sensory Rooms?

Anybody who has sensory issues, including people with autism, people with special educational needs, people with communication difficulties, and even people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s can use the iHus Sensory Rooms.

The rooms are suitable for any age and can bring relief to those with sensory processing disorders in a variety of different settings who may need either a little more stimulation or a quiet time of contemplation.

In addition, this brings relief to the parents and carers of people with disabilities where sensory functioning is affected or impaired in any way.

How can the iHus Sensory Rooms Benefit the Users?

The iHus Sensory Room benefits the users in many different and innovative ways.

For children with autism, the rooms eliminate distractions from the stresses and anxieties of everyday life which can have a huge impact on mood and behaviour, ultimately providing a safe space and a place for calm relaxation and contemplation.

Furthermore, the Sensory Rooms offer an environment where children with special educational needs or physical disabilities can experience creative sensory input, plus the ability to communicate in very personal and unique ways, and that all important sense of physical interaction or movement.

For people with dementia or Alzheimer’s, these rooms can provide welcome relief from anxieties that are difficult to express in any other way. The users can engage in any of the five senses that work especially well for them, making it a very personal experience. More about the five senses can be found here.

This relief can come from touching sensory rich materials, playing music that the user can relate to, or engaging with sensory enhancing visual effects, whether these are different coloured lights or imagery.

Why Should we Install an iHus Sensory Room in our Organisation?

Maybe the answer to this question would be another question; why shouldn’t you install a Sensory Room? You will soon realise that any barriers you may imagine to installing a Sensory Room are easily overcome.

Many people think there isn’t room or that they are difficult to install, or of course, that as a business owner with good intentions of making their organisation more accessible, will be prevented by the cost implications.

These are all issues that, when you speak to our dedicated team of advisors, you will realise are easy to resolve.

The iHus Sensory Rooms can be designed to fit in to any space or can use an existing space which can be converted by our expert installation team.

Furthermore, there is no need to worry about lengthy disruption or construction taking place on your site, all our Sensory rooms are modular in design and are built in our workshops in South Yorkshire, before being lifted in to position in your organisation.

‘But the cost….’ is an obstacle we hear often when discussing how organisations can become more accessible.

At this point, it is worth noting that the U.K has around 13 million disabled people who need to be catered for. Their spending power equates to approximately £12 BILLION and as more businesses become more accessible, the market sets to increase by 11% every year, so the question should perhaps be viewed another way; can you afford not to install a Sensory Room?

Moreover, people with disabilities or their parents and carers find it particularly frustrating that they are discriminated against when it comes to how they choose to spend their leisure time being limited due to lack of facilities.

And if organisations provide facilities, they are likely to be rewarded by loyal customers who want to go to places to enjoy their quality time, knowing they have appropriate services and amenities within easy access.
